Porl Young has more than established himself as a producer, engineer, remixer, musician and DJ.
With over 30 years’ experience, Porl has produced, engineered or remixed an impressive and truly diverse array of artists; his credits range from engineering for innovators such as Lee “Scratch” Perry, Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music), Nina Hagen and Peter Perrett, remixing ‘80s legends Annie Lennox, Erasure, Soft Cell and Sheena Easton, to his current projects, which include co-production and guitars as a member of dark electro darlings Massive Ego, production for The Disko Katz with DJ Wayne G, and production and engineering for commercial pop remixers Shanghai Surprize.
Starting out as an assistant engineer at The Townhouse, London, Porl worked alongside some of the world’s biggest artists and producers, including Prince, Trevor Horn, Adrian Sherwood, Tim Palmer, XTC, Kirsty MacColl and Alison Moyet. He soon found himself engineering sessions for Beverly Craven and The Hothouse Flowers, and moved to Phil Manzanera’s Gallery Studios, where he co-produced and engineered Rosetta Stone’s goth classic, “An Eye For The Main Chance''.
Porl subsequently joined the band for 2 years as guitarist, touring and co-producing “Adrenaline” and “The Witch” with them before returning to the studio again to produce Children On Stun, and engineer for a host of international artists including Ana Torroja, Antonio Vega and La Lupita.
He's been an engineer for the Beatmasters and for Paul Masterson, with whom he worked on several Candy Girls and Wand classics including Da Mob feat. Jocelyn Brown and Amen UK.
Porl was co-producer and engineer for the Sleazesisters, remixing a stellar list of pop artists in their definitive NRG style. Atomic Kitten, Ace Of Base, Dana International, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Geri Halliwell, Billie Piper and Steps are just a few of the artists that received the Sleazesisters touch. He was also co-producer, writer and engineer with Micky Modelle in the Tuff Twins, releasing several hard house club classics and remixes.
As a DJ, Porl's long running residency at the legendary Heaven alongside fellow producer Wayne G in the early 2000s really put him on the map. A big room DJ playing big room sounds, he's adverse to categorisation; his broad musical style is notorious for taking clubbers on a musical journey.
